Caesars Palace Kidnapper Exposed as Colorado Fugitive

The Caesars Palace Standoff: A Transient Fugitive’s Terrifying Reign
The man who held his on-again/off-again girlfriend hostage at Caesars Palace for six harrowing hours on Tuesday, July 11, has been revealed as a fugitive from Colorado. The arrest report obtained by KLAS-TV/Las Vegas sheds light on the incident, portraying a shocking tale of drug-induced aggression and fear.
A High and Dangerous Encounter
Former resident Matthew Mannix , 35, was under the influence of drugs when he brazenly threatened police, claiming to possess a loaded gun and vowing to pull the trigger if they didn’t back down. Although no gun was found, the report states that officers could hear the terrified captive yelling through the door, alerting them to the presence of a knife.
SWAT Intervention on the Strip
Following a domestic disturbance call at 9:15 a.m., police and SWAT swiftly descended upon the Las Vegas Strip casino hotel. Witnesses watched in astonishment as Mannix unleashed chaos from his Octavius Tower suite, hurling chairs and various objects from 21 floors above. Luckily, prompt evacuation prevented any injuries. The resulting damage to the room is estimated to exceed $50K, reports KTNV.
Las Vegas police uncovered an alarming history, revealing Mannix’s active arrest warrant and four restraining orders in Colorado. The specific offense triggering the warrant remains redacted in the arrest report.
Mannix’s victim, whose identity is also concealed, disclosed a distressing lifestyle of homelessness and drug abuse with the suspect on the Las Vegas Strip. Fearful for her life, she explained why she did not leave the room. Curiously, she believed Mannix to be an actor employed by MTV.
Mannix now faces multiple charges from Clark County, including kidnapping, coercion with a deadly weapon, destruction of property, resisting arrest with a deadly weapon (non-firearm), and endangering public safety and property. He is scheduled to appear in Las Vegas Justice Court on Wednesday afternoon.
