Inside Man Avoids Jail After Casino Robbery
Ireland is a place where you can find people enjoying casino games. The Fitzwilliam Card Club happens to be one such place and it’s located in Dublin. The same place was robbed of €50,000 and the employer was fed to the wolves because the inside man, David Wright, got a 4-year sentence and that sentence was immediately suspended.
The judge stated that he showed remorse for his actions and apologized to the employee that got attacked during the robbery. Wright was also cooperative during the first hearings which is why he got away. The judge also directed Wright to pay €1,200 and another €1,800 within 6 months.
A Remorseful Poker Dealer
It seems like the dealer had an ace up his sleeve, but that isn’t the case as he still needs to pay for the damages he’s done. The man was a poker dealer that worked at the Fitzwilliam Card Club for some time. A friend of his, who the police are looking for, approached him and asked him for information about the club’s cash flow and details on cash deliveries. Wright disclosed that information and was probably promised a lump sum from the robbery that was about to happen.
The cash transactions were made via the JR Byrne company, and one of the employees was in charge of delivering €50,000 as well as some cigarettes to the casino. The employee did so out of his BMW and he had a separate key for accessing the casino.
As he was going toward the casino with the cash, he noticed a jogger, that turned out to be a robber and he attacked him. He was threatened to let go of the money or be killed, but the deliveryman didn’t let go. The robber managed to trip the delivery man and get the bag.
He got into a nearby car and escaped. The police are still looking for the man, but David’s car was spotted on CCTV footage which brought him under suspicion. Furthermore, deposits of €1,200 and €2,500 were made after the robbery which is why David Wright was brought in for questioning. He showed genuine remorse and cooperated with the police which is why he got a 4-year sentence and then was set free.
Conclusion
This is one of the few cases where the inside man of a casino robbery wasn’t punished. Wright still has some payments to make and to deal with the stigma of what he did. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he got fired from the card club.
