Las Vegas Authorities Initiate Investigation into Long-Stalled Tupac Homicide Case

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Conducts Search in Tupac Shakur Homicide Case
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced on Tuesday that it had searched a home on Monday as part of its ongoing investigation into the 1996 death of renowned hip-hop artist Tupac Shakur.
“LVMPD can confirm a search warrant was served in Henderson, Nevada on July 17, 2023, as part of the ongoing Tupac Shakur homicide investigation,” stated Metro. “We will have no further comment at this time.” Detectives carried out the search warrant at a residence located near Interstate 11 and Wagon Wheel Drive in the Las Vegas suburb. No arrests have been made as of Tuesday.
The Events Surrounding Shakur’s Tragic Death
Shakur was fatally shot on September 7, 1996 while being driven by his friend, Suge Knight, the founder of Death Row Records. The incident occurred after a Mike Tyson boxing match at the MGM Grand when a white Cadillac, occupied by three or four individuals, pulled up beside Knight’s BMW on Flamingo Drive. From the back window, one of the occupants fired at least 13 rounds into Knight’s vehicle, hitting Shakur four times in the chest. Immediately after the shooting, Shakur was transported to University Medical Center, where he underwent surgery, fell into a coma, and eventually passed away on September 13, 1996, at the age of 25.
Despite his brief music career of only five years, Shakur left an indelible mark, having sold over 75 million records worldwide.
The Connections and Unsolved Mysteries
Many believe that the murder of the Notorious B.I.G. (aka Biggie Smalls) on March 9, 1997, in Los Angeles was a retaliatory act for Shakur’s death. However, similar to the Tupac case, no arrests were made in the Biggie Smalls murder.
While the Los Angeles police and Shakur’s mother, who filed a wrongful death lawsuit in 1997, suspected gang member Orlando Anderson, there was never conclusive evidence linking Anderson to the murder. Incidentally, on the evening of Shakur’s death, Anderson was involved in a physical altercation with Shakur and his entourage in the MGM Grand lobby.
Anderson himself was killed in a gang shootout in Los Angeles in 1998.
This remains a developing story, and updates will be provided as new information emerges.
