MGM Expands on the Strip

The Strip is a location that’s well-known to casino players all over the world. It hosts the biggest casino brands in Vegas and these venues have a lot of visitors. The thing about the biggest names in Vegas history is that they tend to change.
MGM is one such name and it has left its mark on the Strip, and in the casino industry in general. In the past couple of years, it has been pretty busy as it has acquired certain brand names. Recently, it acquired another one which shows that brands like MGM can push the boundaries of expansion.
MGM Nabs Cosmopolitan
Takeovers and acquisitions are nothing new to Vegas or the Strip. The more successful casinos have taken over others and when some time passes the ones they acquired regain their independence. These things have happened in the past and will continue to happen.
Some big names on the Strip aren’t there to stay which is why they are gone forever. But this isn’t the case with MGM. This brand has been a busy bee and it has recently completed a deal and nabbed The Cosmopolitan. The deal took a while to close as the process took from September 2021 to May 2022 to finish.
When it comes to integrating the Cosmopolitan into the MGM network, the process only just finished recently. The Cosmopolitan offers a sportsbook which is what the MGM was after. Moreover, Cosmopolitan is now part of the MGM brand which is why the sportsbook has been rebranded to the BetMGM Sportsbook and Lounge. It’s designed to get the attention of many sports bettors and expand the MGM brand name on the Strip. But all moves like this require a sacrifice which is why MGM sold the Mirage.
With moves like this, it’s clear that MGM has something cooking. In other words, MGM has big plans for the Strip in the future and it’s not clear if they’re just beginning or if they’re ending. Strategically, this is a great way of keeping competitors out of the market. By closing the Mirage and acquiring Cosmopolitan, MGM has managed to expand its territory on the Strip and in the sports betting market.
Sports bettors can already visit the BetMGM Sportsbook and Lounge and see what it has to offer. All MGM needs to do now is wait and see the effect it has on the Strip.
Conclusion
MGM acquired The Cosmopolitan and rebranded the sportsbook to ensure a better foothold on the Strip. MGM seems to be slowly taking over, but time will tell what MGM does in Vegas.
