Miccosukee Casino & Resort Embezzlement Revealed
Certain people will go to great lengths to get a casino prize. In other words, they would go for criminal activities if it got them what they wanted. Something like that happened at the Miccosukee Casino & Resort.
This Florida casino had been pretty successful and has had lots of visitors throughout the years. But something was odd with the numbers and the books which is why the Miccosukee Tribe decided to investigate and they called in the FBI to help. It was revealed that certain casino employees and their spouses had embezzled over $5 million over several years.
Casino Employees Worked Together to Drain the Casino
So, the tribe is looking to recover the $5.3 million that was embezzled in an elaborate scheme. Certain casino employees decided to swindle big sums of money in May 2015. They used so-called ghost chips that they entered into slot machines when no one was playing.
Once they extracted a certain sum of money and got away with it they gave some of the chips to their spouses who started taking part in the scheme. Little by little the numbers showed that $5.3 million went missing.
That’s why the FBI was called in to conduct an investigation. The investigation revealed that it was certain casino employees that embezzled the money. They could be clearly seen on camera footage inserting the ghost chips into machines. The guilty parties used the money to buy real estate, college plans, cars, and more.
They have been found guilty and the tribe is looking for a way to return the money that was stolen. These kinds of schemes show that casinos aren’t safe from the inside as well, as there are certain greedy individuals that won’t shy away from robbing a place they worked in.
Naturally, crime doesn’t pay and all of them have been apprehended. The casino is looking for ways to get the staggering sum back and this includes suing the insurance company. Time will tell if that amount makes it back to the fold.
Conclusion
Casino employees can be underappreciated sometimes, but that doesn’t mean that they need to rob the casino they’re working in. They have rights and can talk to their employees if they’re feeling underappreciated and can even take to protests if they’re looking to get certain things. Crime is not the way to go.
