Quebec Casino Workers on Strike During Grand Prix

The casino workers of four Quebec casinos have ultimately decided on going on strike during the Grand Prix. CSN, the union representing them, agrees with their decision and is behind them all the way. The strike is going to last for 5 days.
The group of protesters is made up of staff from 5 casinos, namely Montreal, Espacejeux, Mont-Tremblant, Charlevoix, and Gatineau. The Lotto Quebec online site will be available online, but the call center won’t. Lotto Quebec has stated that they have made two offers already, but it seems they weren’t enough.
The Union Approved the Strike, Casino Will Be Open With Limited Capacity
The staff at any casino, be it online or offline, is the machine that keeps the casino running. They should be paid appropriately. The Quebec situation is a tricky one for both parties involved. The CSN union is behind the workers, and it has approved their 5-day strike which is happening during Grand Prix weekend.
The workers are looking for a rise in salary so they can afford living costs and an added dollar per hour. CSN and the workers were looking for the right time for the protest, and the Grand Prix weekend happened to be that time.
On the other hand, Lotto Quebec has stated that their officials at the negotiating table have made 2 offers. They also said that CSN is looking for double what was originally negotiated. The President of security workers at Montreal Casino has stated that Lotto Quebec has had 17 years of record profits, and the vice president had a 34% increase in salary after last year’s reports.
The casino will remain open during the Grand Prix weekend. They will be short-staffed and operate at a limited capacity. This will have some effects on the profits during this season. The strike may go on more than 5 days if the workers’ demands aren’t met which will further impact the casinos. Time will tell how Lotto Quebec will react and if their officials will sit at the negotiations table.
Conclusion
The Quebec casino workers along with CSN are currently on a 5-day strike. The strike is taking place during Grand Prix weekend and forcing casinos to be working at limited capacity. This is done because their demands aren’t met by Lotto Quebec, who have stated that they have already made 2 generous offers.
